About Us - Strategic Planning
Our Iceberg is Melting!

During the second semester of the 2010-2011 school year, a large group of people interested in taking our school district to the next level attended a Strategic Planning Meeting hosted by our superintendent, Doctor Bruce Hibbard, and his cabinet members. A team of 140 people including community members, parents, teachers, administrators, and board members learned about new teaching strategies we’re using in our classrooms, some changes in how our teachers are collaborating to improve our student’s performance, and the vision we have for our district in the coming years.

In addition to affirming our vision for the future, we discussed the methods we’re using to create organizational clarity, establish a sense of urgency for these needed changes, and create a guiding coalition of people who share this vision. “We believe strongly that the world needs much more action from a broader range of people – action that is informed, committed, and inspired – to help us all in an era of increasing change.” - John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber

If you haven’t heard about the book, “Our Iceberg is Melting”, by John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber, you will soon. “It’s the fable is about a penguin colony in Antarctica. A group of beautiful emperor penguins live as they have for many years. Then, one curious bird discovers a potentially devastating problem threatening their home, and pretty much no one listens to him. The characters in the story, Fred, Alice, Louis, Buddy, the Professor, and NoNo, are like people we recognize — even ourselves. Their tale is one of resistance to change and heroic action, seemingly intractable obstacles and the most clever tactics for dealing with those obstacles. It's a story that is occurring in different forms all around us today — but the penguins handle the very real challenges a great deal better than most of us. Our Iceberg Is Melting is based on pioneering work that shows how the 8 Steps produce needed change in any sort of group. It's a story that can be enjoyed by anyone while at the same time providing invaluable guidance for a world that just keeps moving faster and faster.” – Kotter International website

Icebergs may be melting all around us, but the New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation is definitely moving in the right direction!  Click here to find out more about Kotter International and the book, "Our Iceberg is Melting."
